Palehawk

Newly hatched hawk ([link]), front and back, inspired by bleeding tooth fungus.

His skin has to harden up a bit yet until it gets the shiny black of the adult form. Possibly the exuded goo forms a lacquer-like veneer over the surface. Mouthparts develop with the rest of the adult carapace. The internal organs do not begin the ignition process until after the maw is forms and juvenile metamorphosis is complete. Hawks start as larval hawk-worms, pupating and hatching after a period of growth.
